For two days you will exchange busy towns for spectacular mountain sceneries, experience hospitality of Berber people and feel proud of yourself when we finally reach the top.

Overview

Come to have a look at our world from the “Mountain of all Mountains” – that´s how local Berber people call Jebel Toubkal, with its summit at 4167m making it the highest peak not only in Morocco but the whole North Africa. For two days you will exchange busy towns for spectacular mountain sceneries, experience hospitality of Berber people and feel proud of yourself when we finally reach the top.

You will be accompanied by a licensed and experienced guide who climbed the Toubkal for the first time when he was six! The tour is technically not difficult and you don´t need to have any previous mountaineering experience, but you should be a little bit fit and used to walking off-road. Good trekking shoes and a wind annorak are highly recommended in any season of the year.

We will spent the night in the atmospheric Refugee Toubkal. You will love the cosy atmosphere around the big fire place where many travellers and mountaineers before you have met and shared stories, food and addresses.

MEALS ARE NORMALLY:

  • Breakfast - tea, coffee, milk, bread, butter, jam, cheese plus porridge in the winter and cereal in summer.
  • Picnic lunch - fresh Moroccan salad, cheese, slicing sausage, tinned tuna fish and sardines, bread, fruit, mint tea.
  • Dinner - Tajine (chicken or mutton with vegetables), spaghetti, cous cous (main courses rotate depending on duration of trek), bread, coffee, tea, cake, fruit.
Equipment:
  • Good walking boots and socks / good trainers for valley treks
  • Personnel First aid Kit
  • 3 to 4 season sleeping bag ( winter) or light Sleeping bag ( Summer)
  • Crampons, Ice axes and Gaiters for Winter treks ( Nov to April )
  • Lightweight waterproof over-trousers / rain-pants
  • Water bottle or camel back (recommended)
  • Soft-sided bag (50-80 litres)
  • Lightweight daypack

DAY 1

Transfer from Marrakech to Imlil and to Mountain Refuge.

After an early breakfast at the hotel in Marrakech, our driver will pick you up and take you to the heart of Morocco’s High Atlas mountains, the trek starts from Imlil (1740m), at 67km on the south west of Marrakech, here you will meet the team who will accompany you during trek, the muleteers will deal with your luggage, food & all other equipments that we usually provide for our clients, within half an hour you start the walk with an experienced mountain guide through the Berber villages following a mule track which will take you to the mountain hut via the shrine Sidi Chamhrouch (2500m) where you will have your lunch, after lunch & a short break, continue towards the refuge (3200m), Approx 6hrs walking.

DAY 2

Trek to The Summit of Jebel Toubkal & Return to Imlil and Marrakech.

Early in the morning we make our attempt on the summit of Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. Our route takes us up the south cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the scree and the altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts. The views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile. When you reach the the summit you will see that the vistas across the surrounding landscape are quite breathtaking. From here there are unrestricted views in every direction, from the Marrakesh Plain to the High Atlas in the north and as far south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara. We will retrace our steps when we return down the mountain and head back towards Imlil.transfer to Marrakech

The Refuges

  • There are two refuges on Jebel Toubkal (right next to each other), the Neltner Hut (Club Alpin Francais) and the newer Mouflons Refuge. Both offer very basic dormitory style accommodation and passable shared bathroom facilities. It is possible to take private room extra 28 euros per person,
