In order to discover the heart of the Moroccan desert, I offer you this Morocco desert hiking program which will allow you to live for a few days a unique experience of traditional life in the Sahara between the golden sand dunes.
During this hike in the Moroccan desert, you will also enjoy the extraordinary landscapes of the mountains, the immense dunes where it is good to sleep under the tent placed on the desert sand while admiring the sunset and sunrise.

The detailed program of Morocco desert hiking
Day 1: Marrakech via Ouarzazate for the Faija Plateau
Departure in the morning from Marrakech to the Faija plateau. We will pass through the Tichka Pass, the most beautiful and highest road pass in Morocco to reach the city of Ouarzazate where we will have lunch. Then, passing through the Ait Saoune Pass we will reach the famous Draa Valley. We will discover ksars, these famous fortified villages, then Zagora which opens the doors to the great desert and finally the Faija plateau where we will join our team of camel drivers. Night in tents.
Day 2: Faija Plateau to Oued Lemhasser
For the start of our hike in the desert, we will climb the small Faija pass from where we have a panoramic view of the Faija plateau. We will discover a real mountainous desert (black mountains, with just a little greenery and a few nomads under Bedouin tents made of goat and camel hair. Lunch will be prepared next to the wells of Regabi. Then we will descend through the Oued Lemhasser to reach our camp. Night in tents and 7 hours of walking during the day.
Day 3: Oued Lemhasser to the Dunes of Chegaga
We will descend a beautiful desert valley before leaving it to reach the immense desert which begins with a vast stony plateau. The panoramic view of the sand desert (with the dunes of Chegaga so small seen from afar) is magnificent. At the end of the day, we will reach the dunes of Chegaga. It is a beautiful walk accompanied at the end of the day by the sunset. Night in tents and 7 hours of walking.
Day 4: Dunes of Chegaga to the Dunes of Bougarn
The Erg Chegaga is continues through a multitude of small dunes, towards the east of the Bani mountain, towards the small Saharan town of Mhamid El Ghizlane and the Oued Draa valley. Our lunch will be prepared by our cook under the tamarisks, then we will continue towards the dunes of Bouguern, a magnificent place, little frequented. We will find enough dry wood there to light a campfire. Night in tents. 5h30 of walking during the day.
Day 5: Dunes of Bougarn to the Dunes of Oued Naam
We will wake up very early to enjoy the sunrise over the beautiful dunes of the desert. We will set off again through a flat desert of small stones and along a less stony plateau. We will refuel at the well on our way and we will reach the dunes of Oued Nâam at the end of the afternoon to enjoy our evening meal. We will spend the night in tents in the beautiful dunes of Oued Nâam, where nomadic caravans come to stock up on water. 6 hours of walking during the day.
Day 6: Oued Naam – Zagora – Marrakech (445km)
End of our trek in the Moroccan desert. After saying goodbye to our team of camel drivers, we will leave in 4x4 towards Ouarzazate, crossing the High Atlas via the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass to reach Marrakech (7 hours of driving).
